Amazon Prime Music app gets car mode for easier use while driving

According to Engadget, Amazon has added car mode to its Amazon Prime Music mobile app. This is intended to make the app easier to use while driving.

Amazon Prime Music Car Mode is a feature which brings a streamlined version of the music streaming app. It introduces bigger texts, bigger buttons for reading control, easy access to Alexa.

When you turn on car mode manually from the menu or it automatically detects a Bluetooth connection to a car, the Amazon Prime Music app will switch to car mode.

It will show you streamlined controls that include swipe, custom presets, and bigger texts to show which song is currently playing, and more. This mode is added to make it easier for drivers to control the music while they focus on driving.

Once Amazon Prime Music is in car mode, it will be split into two sections. The top section will show you all the playback controls like play, pause, skip, etc.

While the lower section is dedicated to music suggestions, playlists, which you can toggle between swiping or touching. What’s more, you can also trigger the Alexa voice assistant for a hands-free experience.

Car Mode does not add any new features / functionality to the Amazon Music app

Since this is a new feature, you would expect it to bring some new features. However, the Car Mode app for Amazon Music does not add any new functionality.

It simply simplifies the controls and music streaming in your car to give you easy access to playback control while you drive. Bigger texts, bigger controls make it easier to change songs or dive into a new playlist.

Notably, the search button is removed as Amazon emphasizes using the Alexa voice assistant to search for your favorite songs.

If you have an older car, you can enable this Car Mode feature in the app by going to Settings and then tapping Car Mode. This feature is available for iOS and Android users around the world.

To exit car mode, you must press the “Leave car” button. Moreover, you can simply turn off Bluetooth on your phone to quickly get out of this mode.

This feature is similar to Spotify Car View, which was enabled on the music streaming app last year. With the latest addition, Amazon hopes to be successful against its rivals, namely Spotify and Apple Music.
