The first music app operated by Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance, named “Soda Music”, has now started small-scale testing, according to a report by Xinyan Finance on Monday.
Soda Music’s player interface is similar in design to Douyin, the mainland Chinese version of TikTok. The music album cover is displayed in the middle of the screen, while key features such as song name, artist, likes, comments, and a share button are displayed from top to bottom in the lower left corner. In the published player interface, there are none of the standard functions seen on common music streaming apps such as ‘back’, ‘forward’ and ‘pause’. It looks like user operation of the app will be based on swipe and touch like on Douyin and TikTok.
Currently, Soda Music’s content library focuses on niche music, which can bring a unique experience to its users through ByteDance’s AI recommendation feature. Additionally, Soda Music will focus on recommending singles only, not albums or playlists.
Regarding user content authorization, Soda Music launched a membership feature during this testing phase. The app, like similar music products, is expected to focus on membership subscription and digital albums as primary sources of revenue.
In December 2021, ByteDance reportedly launched an internal test of the app. The name of this product was not “Feile”, but “Soda Music”, and the product development was completed around September last year. Soda Music is positioned as a music streaming platform for young people who like to follow musical trends.

Soda Music recently completed copyright registration for the software. According to public information, the development of Soda Music was completed on February 14, 2022, and the copyright belongs to Beijing Microlive Vision Technology Co., Ltd., which is also the main operator of Douyin.
Additionally, a few options for the Soda Music logo have been finalized. Currently, there are two templates, with bubbles and music serving as the main elements. One of them will be selected as the logo when the product is officially released.
