Digital music production course for adults with autism and additional needs

A WARRINGTON-based charity, Creating Adventures offers free digital music production classes for adults with autism and additional needs.

Starting in November and over a 12 month period at the Pyramid Arts Center, Warrington, registration is available online through the Creation of Adventures website. www.creatingadventures.co.uk/music-course

This fully funded project, carried out by Steve Oates of Score Creative Education, will involve 10 adults at a time participating in weekly one-hour sessions using professional standard computer and digital audio equipment to create and record their own music. Participants will learn to use GarageBand software for Mac via iPad, musical instruments, digital audio recording equipment, and their own vocal ability to create music in their own personal style.

As part of the course, there will be opportunities to explore different musical techniques, experiment with DJ equipment, and create finished tracks that will be uploaded to SoundCloud to be shared with family and friends. Participants will be able to incorporate samples of their favorite game soundtrack or TV theme and create tracks in their favorite genre; hip-hop, garage, rap, pop, rock, disco, soul, blues, jazz or invent something new! Music will also be created to accompany performances by the Creation Adventures Beautiful Noise choir.

Jenny Allcock, Founder of Creating Adventures, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this course through Brevio, the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and Tesco Bags for Help. Creative activities that involve music and technology are extremely beneficial for these adults, helping them develop social and technological skills to improve their employment potential and provide them with a means of expression. These adults suffered more than most during the pandemic and the activities encourage them to express their emotions and anxieties through music, thereby improving their mental well-being. “

Creating Adventures brings laughter, stimulation and personal growth to adults with autism and learning disabilities. The fully funded activities act as therapy, providing opportunities to socialize, develop communication and life skills, and discover their inner talents. Our mission is to enrich the lives of adults with autism and learning disabilities by providing activities that help them shine. We believe that everyone has a talent and should be given the opportunity and the encouragement to find and develop that talent in order to experience a sense of personal growth and a sense of belonging. Brevio is a British social enterprise whose mission is to simplify research and grant applications, reducing administration and increasing impact.

The St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the St. James’s Place wealth management group. The Foundation has been supporting those in need since 1992, making a positive and lasting difference in people’s lives by providing grants to UK registered charities to help them in the incredible work they do every day. So far they have raised and distributed over £ 100million to thousands of charities.
