Friends turn disused shipping container near Bristol into music production studio

An abandoned shipping container in South Gloucestershire has been turned into a music production studio.

The facility, known as Shipment Studios, was created by three friends after securing the land in April.

Liam Scapens, Jack Houston and Alfie Richardson started the business which they have now opened to the public in Winterbourne.

After first coming up with the idea of starting a studio, the trio acquired a container from Avonmouth Docks.

Jack told Bristol Live: “The shipping container was used and on its last legs. It was about to be scrapped.

“There were even some holes, so we had to bring in a user to fix it. It took intensive monitoring from YouTube to help us learn the tricks to help us grow the studio, as well as months of planning. . “

The Maersk sea container has been completely transformed and divided into three sections.

Liam said it took the three of them four months of work, alongside electricians and other laborers, to complete the project.

“We all work full time, so it was months of hard work almost every night to make sure we could finish it,” he explained.

Shipment Studios is home to a vocal recording studio, music production room and DJ booth which are all accessible through an online reservation system.

The container itself was delivered in May and the space was finally opened in August.

The friends, who are all music producers themselves, take turns in parallel with their daily work to ensure that someone is always present when making reservations.

The equipment is at the cutting edge of technology, with new CDJ 3000 turntables available for hire.

The studio can be booked for £ 20 per hour

With Bristol having such a proud musical heritage, there are plenty of recording studios across the city, but the one based inside a shipping container is certainly different.

The studio is located on Swan Lane in Winterbourne. More information on this can be found here.
