RAPID CITY, SD – Thursday night was a night of premieres for The Monument’s Summit Arena.
The new Rapid City venue hosted For King and Country, making it the first major musical production for the Summit.
The event also gave Monument staff their first chance to see how the new facility operates, with many part-time Monument staff working in the arena for the first time.
The Monument’s executive director Craig Baltzer said that aside from a few gremlins from the first night, it was a very successful and exciting production to see the new arena in operation.
“I mean, you work so hard to design it a certain way, hopefully it works the way you want it to, and yeah, I think it does for the most part,” Baltzer said.
The Summit Arena is now stepping up a gear for State Girls Volleyball starting Wednesday.
However, the rest of The Monument expect a busy weekend.
“The biggest event of the day tomorrow is probably Oktoberfest, it’s a big event,” Baltzer added. “So you go straight from Oktoberfest to hockey tomorrow, it’s going to be a big day. “
The next big concert scheduled for the Summit Arena is the Zac Brown Band on November 21st.
Baltzer also says to keep a close ear as new big productions are expected to be announced soon.
