Akai’s MPC studio aims to redefine music production

Akai Professional has announced its latest music production system in MPC Studio.

With this latest piece of hardware – Akai’s thinnest and most compact production system to date – it aims to offer even more convenient control over the music production process.

When paired with MPC2 DAW desktop software (Mac and PC), Akai says MPC Studio “offers a total creation package for the modern, serious beat maker and music producer.”

MPC Studio

At the heart of how the MPC Studio works are the 16 pressure and velocity sensitive RGB backlit pads with after-touch. They help optimize performance; play and record patterns, as well as notes and chords with “sonic precision” with an accurate visual display of velocity groups and pads.

New to the controller is the assignable Touch Strip on the left side, there to help sculpt performances and productions, including the ability to add articulation to a stringed instrument or guitar: or add modulation or pitch bend to a synth keyboard; control Note Repeat for hi-hat, snare drums, effects, and more.

There’s a color LCD display that provides visual feedback, with a dial below for scrolling through track names, plug-in instrument presets, control parameter values or chords and scales. The intention is to make work more efficient by allowing the user to spend more time and concentrate on the music they are creating.

Towards the bottom are dedicated MPC transport controls, with record and overdub buttons, as well as built-in locate buttons for time saving and precise localization on your timeline.

Combined with the DAW MPC2 Desktop software, Akai claims that the merging of hardware and software is seamless. You can use plug-in instruments with a wide selection of sounds and textures, with the AIR Hype plug-in synthesizer offering over 1,500 presets to choose from.

Akai Professional, Senior Product Manager Dan Gill said, “We are really excited to add the new MPC Studio to the MPC line. From rhythm makers to music makers and songwriters, the MPC Studio offers a serious range of modern production tools to create, produce, mix and master any production. The value of having the MPC2 DAW desktop software, which also works as a VST plug-in in any host DAW, makes it an incredibly robust system for any music creator.

The MPC Studio Music Production System is available for purchase now, for an MSRP of £ 229.99 / € 269.99.
